The girls, aged seven to 10, are working on their Active Adventures badge, which involves learning bike maintenance skills.

The cycling charity’s volunteers refurbish and repair bikes, and teach communities how to cycle, so they were the ideal experts to help the Brownies earn their badge.

Lynda Short, unit leader, said: “The new Active Adventures badge from Girlguiding Scotland, in partnership with Sustrans, promotes active travel. This term we have been out and about in Killermont, learning about the benefits of leaving the car at home.

“Our latest activity involved carrying out checks on bikes to ensure they’re safe to use. As well as showing the children how to do this, Bike For Good also demonstrated how to remove and replace a tyre, and repair a puncture. The girls then put their new knowledge into practice using the charity’s bikes and equipment.

“We are so grateful to the four Bike For Good volunteers for giving up their Tuesday evening to teach the Brownies these important skills.”

Iain Walker, Training and Employability Coordinator at Bike For Good, said: “It was a great opportunity to teach the girls some practical skills that hopefully they can use to be more independent on their cycling adventures.”

Girlguiding is for girls aged from 4 to 18. To register your child, or for more information about volunteering, visit www.girlguidingdunbartonshire.org.uk
