Bruach Architects has been appointed to design Girlguiding Dunbartonshire’s new Catterburn Outdoor Activity Centre.

The Clydebank-based firm will lead the project, which will replace the original Brownie House that was devastated by a flood last year.

Since it was built in the 1980s, Catterburn Brownie House served as a beloved venue for pack holidays and outdoor adventures for thousands of Girlguiding Dunbartonshire members. The new activity centre will continue this legacy, offering an enhanced experience for future generations of members.

‘An opportunity’

Lynne Gibbons, Catterburn Chair for Girlguiding Dunbartonshire, said: “When the flood hit, back in January 2023, it was very upsetting. However, it gave us an opportunity to think how we could offer an even better experience for our girls and volunteers.

“Catterburn Brownie House held a special place in our hearts, and we look forward to seeing it come to life once again as Catterburn Outdoor Activity Centre, which will be a fully accessible and inclusive space that meets all of our girls’  and volunteers’ needs.”

“To ensure we capture all of these needs, we will be holding consultations to ensure the views of our girls, their families and our volunteers are heard. We look forward to hearing about their vision for Catterburn.

“It’s a very exciting time and we are thrilled to be working with Bruach Architects on this fantastic project.”

Colin Hastie, from Bruach Architects, said: “We are delighted to be appointed to help redevelop the accommodation at Catterburn Outdoor Activity Centre, and look forward to working with adult and youth members of Girlguiding Dunbartonshire to help create a facility that will provide high quality residential and outdoor experiences to the widest range of users.”
