It was a numbers game for Girl Guides when they enjoyed a 26-hour campathon.

The Vale of Leven, Balloch, Clydebank, Bearsden and Helensburgh youngsters travelled to Girlguiding Dunbartonshire’s Catterburn campsite in Stirlingshire to enjoy 26 hours of activities, all themed around the number 26.

As well as making 26 new friends, they successfully completed 26 fun-filled challenges and even tried their hand at tomahawk throwing.

The event was held over the weekend of August 19 and 20, with 26 Guides camping with their leaders on the Friday night, and another 26 sleeping under the stars on the Saturday.

The campathon was also aimed at helping leaders gain more camping experience.

A spokesperson for Girlguiding Dunbartonshire said: “The 26-hour campathon was for new leaders who had not camped before or who had very little camping experience.

“They all brought some Guides to experience all that Catterburn has to offer.

“The programme was designed to give the Guides a mixture of traditional camping activities, alongside some of the more adventurous activities that Catterburn offers.

“The event brought together an experienced outdoor team from across the county to share their skills and showed our county teamwork at its best.

”The Catterburn campsite – which Brownies, Guides and Rangers from across East and West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute have been holidaying at for decades – suffered a huge flood earlier this year. A pipe burst in the Brownie House, which offers residential accommodation for 24 girls, and the water caused devastation to the floor and roof.

The spokesperson added: “Despite the disastrous flood affecting the Brownie House, Girlguiding Dunbartonshire members are continuing to have great experiences at the campsite at Catterburn. The site still has so much to offer for anyone looking for outside space for team building, leadership development and exciting adventures. We are happy to take bookings from outwith Girlguiding, particularly during weekdays.
